Signed by the Redlegs in early 1925 Jones graduated from the Juniors to make his senior debut, but was then forced to sit out for the rest of the year due to a clearance wrangle with St Kilda. They appealed against him, before it was revealed he had been a bona fide resident of the city of Prahran for four years, which formed part of Melbourne's district.
He didn't reappear in the seniors until late 1926 where he played the last two games of the regular season before missing out on the finals.
Jones then missed out on the 1927 and 1928 seasons before returning to Melbourne in 1929 to play eight matches in most successful year.
He missed 1930 before joining St Kilda in 1931 where he played played one final VFL match. He rejoined Melbourne midway through that year, played Seconds in 1933 before joining Sandringham in 1934.

Notes
Also known as 'Tom' in some sources, and as having a first name starting with F in others. May be the same Jones who trained with Melbourne in 1924. Described as joining Melbourne at 16. Probably the same player as Trevor Jones. Likely from Malvern.
