Former Victorian representative who played across the ground in his eight seasons for Footscray. He also ran third in two Stawell Gifts, but he only managed two games after transferring to Melbourne. He also played for Williamstown in 1941, and Prahran in 1945.
In the 1950s he returned to Footscray as a trainer, where he remained through the 1958 pre-season.
During his VFL career Spargo was a fireman. His sons Bob and Ricky both played for Footscray, and his grandson Paul played for North Melbourne. Great grandson Charlie debuted with Melbourne in 2018.
