After losing their chance to play finals with four consecutive losses, Melbourne enjoyed a morale boosting win against another side whose campaign had fizzed out before the end of the year. The Suns looked like causing them further misery after kicking the first two goals, but the visitors recovered to be level at quarter time. Despite losing Tom Sparrow to injury during the second quarter, they took the lead at half time before 10 goals to two after the break delivered a comfortable win. After a year of forward line struggles, the Demons finally saw three of their talls fire at the same time, with Turner, Petty and van Rooyen kicking 10 goals between them.
Best were Viney, Langdon and Turner. Jake Melksham replaced Tom Sparrow (ankle) in the second quarter. Jack Viney was fined $6250 for forceful front on contact, and Jacob van Rooyen $3750 for striking.
