The Bulldogs got the points, their first win in five, but were hardly convincing. Jeff Farmer kicked three in a row in the third term to drag Melbourne to within nine points, but the Dogs steadied to win comfortably.
Best for Melbourne were Viney, Yze and Schwarz. Marcus Seecamp was suspended for two weeks for kneeing.
