Melbourne needed to win in order to keep their finals hopes alive, but were jumped by the lowly Bulldogs and never recovered. Despite Jack Watts kicking the first goal of the last quarter to close the margin the game was lost and the Bulldogs ran away with the match easily.
Sam Blease made his debut when he replaced Jamie Bennell in the third quarter.
McKenzie, Trengove and Petterd were best. Brent Moloney was reprimanded for rough conduct.
