Called up as a late replacement for his first game, the half-back played two senior games in 1927 and remained on the list in 1928 before being cleared to Prahran before Round 2 of the season.

Played for Yarraville from 1929 to mid-1932 when he was cleared back to Prahran on residential grounds. Hannan returned to the VFL for six games with Footscray in 1933, then went back to Prahran for one more game in 1934.
