Born in Fiji, Rodan moved to Australia with his parents at the age of three and took up Australian Rules football when there were no rugby union clubs in the local area. He rose through the junior ranks and won the Morrish Medal in 2000 and 2001. Recruited by Richmond at the end of 2001 he played 65 games for the Tigers despite missing all of 2005 with a serious knee injury.

After being delisted by Richmond Rodan joined Port Adelaide and added another 111 games to his tally, including playing in Port's disastrous 2007 Grand Final against Geelong. He injured his knee again in late 2009 but was able to play by Round 6, 2010 due to radical ligament replacement surgery. He was forced to undergo another procedure at the end of that year when the ligament frayed. With Port set to delist Rodan at the end of 2012 Melbourne traded a late pick to secure his services without jeopardising their free agent compensation.

Rodan played Round 1 against his old side, but spent most of the season bouncing between the senior and Casey Demons sides. He returned late in the year, but suffered a serious knee injury in the Round 22 match against Port Adelaide and retired before undergoing his fourth knee reconstruction.

Joined West Preston-Lakeside in 2015, and in 2017 made his debut as an AFL goal umpire.
