The younger brother of Robert Flower impressed in his debut season and won the club's Best First Year Player award after playing 11 games. The midfielder struggled to hold down a regular place over the next two years, and left the club after being told his opportunities would be limited in 1980
Flower was granted permission to train with Collingwood, but wasn't picked up by the Magpies and instead joined VFA side Camberwell for 15 games from 1980 to 1982. In 1984 he joined Brunswick, where he played in a VFA Second Division premiership the next year and appeared through 1986.
