After the Round 3 match against South Melbourne, officials had claimed that Phil Carman was being victimised by the umpires. On this Saturday he hardly got a touch in the first half but still managed to end up on the wrong side of a 5-1 free kick count.
Phil Seaton, Greg Wells and Laurie Fowler were named the Demons' best but 1979's big disappointments managed to do it easily against the disappointment of the decade.
By the time Carman managed to get himself into the game in the second half it was too late and down the other end Richmond were busy booting eight goals in the third quarter alone to all but secure victory and consign the Demons to yet another dark day where they remained second last only because St Kilda were inexplicably even worse.
