Defender regarded as one of his state's toughest players when he crossed to the VFL in 1985. He debuted in 1978, and played 154 senior games before joining Melbourne, including winning South Adelaide's 1982 Best and Fairest. Nicknamed “The Claw” for his fierce tackling.

Also played for Prahran in the VFA from 1988 through 1990. The next year he was appointed playing coach of Seymour, and presided over a premiership in his only season.

Also coached East Gambier in the 1990s, then West Gambier in 1998.
