New South Wales U18 state player in 2008 who moved to the SANFL when he wasn't drafted. He started his career in the North Adelaide reserves, but once he broke into the senior squad he solidified a place and went on to play his best season in 2012 before being picked with Melbourne's second last selection in the rookie draft.

After impressing in matches for Casey Demons Clisby was chosen as Melbourne's mid-season rookie elevation and debuted immediately. After playing eight games in a row he saw his first year ended by a three match suspension for rough conduct in Round 20.

Clisby switched to number 15 in 2014, but he failed to add another senior game to his tally. He was emergency several times early in the year before missing five weeks with a quad injury. At the end of the season he was delisted by the Demons. In 2015 Clisby played with Essendon during the NAB Cup as a fill-in player then returned to North Adelaide, where he played until 2021, including in a premiership in 2018. In 2023 he returned to North Adelaide as a senior assistant coach and Reserves coach.

His uncle Trevor played for North Adelaide, and was drafted by Fitzroy in 1981, and on the Adelaide list in 1991 but never played a league game.
