Originally with the South Melbourne junior side, wingman Meade joined Melbourne via a stint in the VFA.

After six games in his first season, the winger sought a clearance to Hawthorn but it was not granted and he had to wait until the week before Round 7, 1929 to join the Mayblooms, He went on to play three seasons with them.

Served in the Navy Reserve during World War II.

His real first name was Edward, with the middle name Les.

Some sources say he was cleared from Glen Iris in April 1927, however other articles 1, 2 and the Football Record 1 2 say Yarraville. However, some Football Records also says Glen Iris. An R. Meade is also shown as playing Seconds in 1928.
