Rover who kicked four goals on debut, but after missing the entire 1914 season saw his VFL career come to an end when Melbourne withdrew from the competition after the 1915 season.

In 1917 he enlisted to serve in the First World War. He didn't return to Melbourne after the war, and coached Somerville in 1922 then Cranbourne in 1923. His brother trained with Richmond in the 1924 pre-season but did not play a senior match.
