Rover recruited by the Demons after winning the Best and Fairest award in the Bendigo League, the rover's first season was his best. He played 15 games before appearing in just two more in 1953 then dropping out of VFL football after training with South Melbourne in the 1954 pre-season. He played at Rochester in 1955.

In 1952 he was described as one of the smallest players in the league.
