199cm ruckman drafted with the promise of being able to play at either end of the ground. AIS-AFL academy graduate, and Vic Metro representative in 2009.

Played pre-season matches for the Demons in 2010 before suffering a groin injury which forced him to miss the early part of the season. He returned through the Casey reserves but suffered a shoulder injury which furthered hampered his progress. Broke into the Scorpions senior side towards the end of the year but couldn't force his way into the Demons lineup.

After impressive performances in the VFL he eventually made his senior debut in the last round of 2011 and kicked a goal on debut in the Demons' narrow loss to Port Adelaide.

Fitzpatrick was recalled for a second game in 2012 before being dropped back to the VFL side. In June it was revealed that he had been diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, and he added one more match to his total in the last round of the season.

He finally found his spot in 2013, playing 11 games almost entirely as a forward under caretaker coach Neil Craig in the second half of the season - and he impressed with 15 goals which included a career best four in the Round 17 defeat by Brisbane. At the end of the year he signed a two year contract extension.

With Melbourne's forward line decimated before the start of the season Fitzpatrick was given first chance to be Melbourne's full-forward in 2014, but was dropped after three goalless games. He returned to kick two each in the last two rounds of the season.

He managed just three games in 2015 after being converted into a defender. His first match of the season was a well received performance against the Western Bulldogs but after two more games was dropped and failed to return to the side. As he was to be delisted at the end of the year the Demons traded him for a token 2015 National Draft selection 94 at the end of the season. Fitzpatrick played the last three games of Hawthorn's season, including two finals, before being delisted.
