Fine marking wingman who joined Carlton in 1892 and played there until 1893. He then played with junior club Austral before going to Melbourne in 1895.
Mitchell joined Hawthorn midway through 1896 before returning the next year and playing in three VFL seasons. He missed the 1898 finals games with a leg injury.
