Originally drafted by Hawthorn, Williams played 33 games for their Reserves before being delisted. He then returned to his original club, playing for his state against Victoria in 1991, before being taken by the Demons in the mid-season draft.
Despite kicking more than 50 goals in the 1992 Reserves, Williams only forced his way into the senior side for a month. A 12 goal haul against Richmond in Round 4 earned him a start. After his four game stint in the seniors he was dropped, and delisted at the end of the year.
Williams played for the Burnie Hawks/Dockers from 1993-1994 and 1997-2000.
