Melbourne first applied to a clearance for the centreman in 1965 but were denied. He played games for the St. Kilda reserves during that season. Wynd joined Melbourne in 1965 and played an undistinguished two matches.

After leaving the Demons he joined VFA club Prahran for 1967.

He had two sons who played senior football. Scott won a Brownlow Medal playing for Footscray, and Paul played three games for North Melbourne in 1997.
