Defender who played in the 1983 Under 19s premiership before making his senior debut in 1985. After eleven games in his first season, including a win on debut, Louttit broke his arm in his second match of 1986 and wouldn't play for Melbourne again.

After leaving the Demons, Louttit joined St Kilda for the 1987 pre-season but was sent to Fitzroy after fighting with Tony Lockett in a practice match. His season season was wrecked after breaking his arm once again in his first practice game with the Lions, and he had to wait until 1988 to play two senior games with the Lions. He was delisted at the end of that year and played with Frankston in 1989.

Travelling to America for work, Louttit was one of the founding members of the Boston Demons side and captain/coached the team in 1998 and 1999, to US National Championships both seasons. In 2001 Louttit moved to San Francisco and joined Santa Cruz - the team he had won two national titles against - of the Golden Gate Football League.
