The son of famous sports reporter Alf Brown was promoted from the Demons supplementary list in 1971. He played six senior games but his major success was in the Reserves where he won the Gardiner Medal.
Looking for greater opportunities he joined Essendon midway through 1972. After one game for the Bombers in 1973 he switched the VFA to play with Port Melbourne in 1973. He remained there through 1974, was cleared to Prahran in 1975, and returned to the league with Brunswick in 1980 and 1981. Later coached Brunswick's Reserves.
