Graduated from the Reserves to play three games in 1987, and one more in 1988. He remained on the list in 1989 but did not appear in another senior game.
In 1990 he played one game for SANFL side Glenelg, and at the end of that year was was selected by Sydney as part of a draft concession where they could select four unattached players. He did not play a game for them.
Played for Modewarre in 2001.
In his autobiography Garry Lyon said Sparks was "a great bloke but a mad bastard".
