Albert "Bill" Fawcett was a World War I veteran, having enlisted in 1916 and serving in the 4th Machine Gun Convoy.
After returning to Australia he returned to his pre-war club Footscray, and was cleared to the Redlegs before Round 6, 1920. He debuted that week, the sixth oldest player to make his VFL/AFL debut with Melbourne, but it was his only senior match for the club. He was cleared back to Footscray before Round 10 of the same year.
In 1921 he joined Essendon and played two games, then joined Yarraville in 1922.
