Picked to debut in the middle of an injury crisis, full-forward Wregg did well until he too fell victim to injury when he received a nasty kick.

In 1904 he returned as a boundary umpire, the first ever used in a Grand Final, and later field umpired 39 VFL matches between 1905 and 1908 - including the 1906 Grand Final.
