Milestones:
MFC Debut
Phil Pinnell

Former Blue Phil Pinnell debuted against his old side in an ANZAC Day clash, but Carlton dominated. It was the Demons first test against a top quality side since their impressive start to the year and they failed to keep up with the classy Blues who had the game won at three-quarter time, before allowing the Demons to win the last quarter.

There was a sensation in the third term when future Demon Michael Young was awarded a rare "double goal". He picked a ball up off the ground and kicked a goal only to be collected by Peter Giles after the kick. Giles was reported and Young given a free kick directly in front which he converted.

The incident had little bearing on the result which was already going firmly in the Blues direction and despite easing off in the last quarter they won comfortably.

Best were R. Elliott, Flower and Rowe. Peter Giles was reported for striking Michael Young with a forearm to the back of the head during the third quarter, but he was cleared.
