A seventh straight loss saw Melbourne's season seemingly destroyed as their run of outs in Adelaide continued.
Melbourne kicked with a wind in the first term and opened the clash with a ferocious attack on the ball. It was to no avail though as they still trailed at quarter time.
The Demons found it difficult to score, but somehow managed to hold Adelaide to 19 point lead at three-quarter time. In the last term, though, the Crows kicked away to a big win.
Neale Daniher admitted erring in letting the game open up in the last term. "We had seven or eight of our best players out, so we wanted to play a defensive type of game to keep us in the game," he said.
"I think we achieved that to three-quarter time, only three goals down and then I said 'let's go for it' - what a stupid thing that was, because then we were blown out of the water."
Simon Godfrey was suspended for a match for rough conduct.
