A strong wind blowing through the exposed Carlton ground had a major effect on the match. It didn't help either side but the locals made better of it to win comfortably. Melbourne were weakened by the absence of Parkin, Sowden, Drane and J. Purse and by far the worse side.
The Blues kicked the only five goals of the first term, all but confirming victory by the first change of ends. They extended their run to six in a row before Jack Leith got Melbourne's first from a free kick. Much of the quarter was spent with the ball out of bounds, only allowing one goal each. Carlton then held Melbourne goalless to the same end of the ground in the third, confirming that they'd win by taking a nine goal lead into the lsat quarter. Melbourne
Best were Conquest, H. Cordner and H. Purse. J. Gardiner suffered a knee injury early in the game.
