Returned to Caulfield in 1899. He returned for the first game of 1900 as a replacement for his brother but didn't play for Melbourne again.

Rippon was cleared to South Melbourne in April 1903 at 29-years-old and played five games for them that year.

His brothers Les and Norm also played for the Redlegs.

Played cricket for Caulfield in 1909 alongside Les.

In 1917 he was serving on the Western Front of World War I where he was shot and killed.
