A medical student at Melbourne University, Langley joined Melbourne in 1900 and despite still playing school football for Caulfield during the year, he played in Melbourne's premiership team. The next year he topped the goalkicking.
In 1902 he played for Trinity College in a collegiate match, as well as adding 16 games to his senior tally.
Langley was made captain in 1905 but he missed the second half of the season with a knee injury, and after the side finished last and he was replaced by Arthur Sowden.
Though primarily a defender by trade, Langley kicked most of his goals while being rested in the forward line.
Become a surgeon at the Alfred Hospital in 1906, restricting his availability to three final games before retiring. Langley was also a notable cricketer in the Dandenong district.
