Debuted with Geelong in 1923 and spent two seasons as a half-forward and winger before being cleared to Melbourne in April 1925 after moving to the city.

Played 10 games in his first season with the Redlegs but just two and one after that, and was cleared to Warrnambool as captain/coach before the start of the 1928 season. In 1930 he joined Hawthorn but never played a senior match for them.

Played as an amateur during his Melbourne career.
