Originally selected by Port Adelaide with pick #35 in the 2010 Draft, the midfielder spent three years in the SANFL before making his senior debut in 2014. He played four games and was offered a one year contract but decided to join Melbourne instead.
Newton started 2015 in the seniors, but fell out of favour in the middle of the year. He missed 10 games before returning for the last three matches of the season and played just twice in 2016 before being delisted. After a year out of the game he signed for WAFL side Subiaco in 2018, playing in consecutive premiership sides.
