The older brother of John Fidge battled injury during his career, missing all of 1984 while hurt. He had his best years in 1985 and 1986 with 42 goals, before further injuries kept him out of the 1987 campaign. Called into the side for his first match of the year in 1988 he was reported for striking Darren Millane from Collingwood and suspended for six matches in what would turn out to be his last VFL appearance. Surgery for a groin injury cost him more games, and despite leading the Reserves goalkicking Fidge was delisted at the end of the year.
He captain/coached Sale in 1989 and 1990, finishing third in the Gippsland League both years, and was named on the interchange bench of their team of the 90s. Played for Werribee in 1992.
