A small crowd turned out for a wet and windy Sunday at Football Park to see Port Adelaide win a midfield battle against a Demon side seeming to be suffering fall-out from the boardroom chaos which claimed Joseph Gutnick during the week. Even Neale Daniher had to plead for a proposed board election to be delayed until the end of the year as his side's season lurched from bad to worse.
Despite having a ruck division with eight AFL games experience between them Port opened up a lead of five goals in the first quarter and despite their shellshocked opponents launching a fightback kicking into the wind in the third-quarter the game was already won. The defeat was the start of a losing streak at Football Park that would stretch for the rest of the decade.
Best were Bruce, Whelan, Yze and Wheatley. Nathan Brown suffered a corked thigh, and James McDonald was fined $1200 for wrestling.
