The unbeaten Demons got a scare from the winless North, who were as much as 20 points in front during the second quarter before fading away. Bayley Fritsch kicked three of his career best six goals in the third quarter to held his side to a 13 point lead. North got the first goal of the last term before Melbourne kicked the final four majors to register their first win at Bellerive Oval.
Nathan Jones was medical substitute, replacing Adam Tomlinson, who suffered a season-ending knee injury during the first quarter. Fritsch was offered a one week suspension for striking after a high fend on North's Tom Powell, but challenged the penalty and was cleared.
