Milestones
First game and First goal
Billy Stretch
In a disappointing performance against the highly rated Swans, Melbourne only managed one goal in the first half but it was special with Billy Stretch goalling with his first kick. The Demons struggled to get the ball inside 50 while Sydney did as they pleased early on - Kurt Tippett kicking three goals in the first quarter alone.
By half time the visitors had put together a match-winning lead and they allowed Melbourne some respectability in the second half - the Demons winning it by two points courtesy of three goals in each of the last two quarters.
Best were McDonald, Salem and Tyson. Jack Watts replaced Cameron Pedersen in the third quarter. Chris Dawes and Dom Tyson both suffered knee injuries but played out the game.
Lynden Dunn was fined $1000 for kneeing Adam Goodes.
