Charlie Young
On a day where Charlie Young became the first Melbourne player to reach 100 VFL games, the home side was wasteful in the first quarter, turning early domination into just six behinds. Moodie counter-attacked to kick the only goal of the first quarter. The Pies hit back with the first goal of the second quarter, and they had the only two goals of the quarter until Gardiner got Melbourne's second near half time.
Collingwood then kicked away with seven goals to five after half time. Melbourne goalled with their only three chances of the third quarter, but they'd left themselves too much work to do.
Best were Bremner, McClelland and Corrie Gardner was reported to the league by the Pies for striking but found not guilty, Melbourne alleged Pannam had struck Gardner.
