Footscray sewed up their spot in the finals and were mobbed by jubilant fans who ran onto the Western Oval after the Bulldogs kicked nine goals to two in the second half to win.

The day had started badly for the home team, conceding five goal in the first quarter and going into the break 10 points behind despite kicking with a four goal breeze. Melbourne were equally unable to take advantage and were just a goal in front at half time. Footscray finally used the wind in the third quarter and held on to win comfortably in the last.

Best were M. Febey, S. Febey and Lyon.
