When Luke Tapscott kicked the first goal of the game 90 seconds into the first quarter Melbourne were off to a positive start, but his side only managed one more official inside 50 for the quarter from that point - late in the term by which point North had taken over.

The Kangaroos were wasteful in their kicking for goal and left the door slightly ajar for Melbourne when they got back within a couple of goals in the second term after quick majors from Jack Fitzpatrick and Chris Dawes, but from there on it was all North.

With the Demons falling apart all over the ground and the defence being overwhelmed by the sheer weight of attacks coming towards them North booted 16 goals to two in the second half to register Melbourne's seventh loss of more than 100 points since 2008.

The Demons suffered their second scoreless last quarter since the start of 2012 (having not conceded one since 1992 before that) as North ran riot with 8.6, untroubled by any opposition pressure. It was the Demons' second four goal game in three weeks, having scored just two points more in Geelong a fortnight earlier.

It is Melbourne's largest ever loss at Docklands.

Best were Sylvia, McDonald and Frawley. Frawley suffered a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter.

Dean Kent replaced Aaron Davey during the third quarter.
