In a match transferred by the AFL to the MCG from Waverley, Stephen Tingay was dominant in the best of his eight games for the season to that point. He torched four opponents on the way to 28 touches.
Garry Lyon was also dominant, booting five and demolishing first gamer Nigel Wirth. Jeff Farmer too had a field day playing on the more experienced Steven Lawrence.
39 points in front at the first change the Demons were already home, but nine minutes into the second term the margin was 63 and commentators were scrambling for the record books.
The Lions steadied briefly before half-time and stemmed the bleeding, but they couldn't stop the Demons careering to a near 100pt victory. Jeff White made the highlight reel with a screamer of a mark just before the final siren.
Neale Daniher said "We are about 10 or 15 minutes away from being a top-four side."
