Melbourne's unbeaten start to the season ended in a thrilling defeat in Adelaide. Starting hot favourite against the Crows, they were out to as much as three goals in front in the first quarter, and almost the same in the last but couldn't restrict Adelaide's quick ball movement or key forwards. The Crows charged home with three goals in the last 10 minutes to take a one point lead with 45 seconds to play.
The Demons went forward but were controversially denied a deliberate out of bounds call in the forward pocket. They failed to score from the resulting throw-in, losing their first game by a point since Round 2, 2010.
Best were Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca and Ed Langdon. Tom Sparrow was an unused substitute.
