Under 19s player in 1991 who had been in Melbourne's squad for the state schoolboy championship in 1989.

Transferred to the Central Districts side in the new Under 18 competition in 1992, Hartman also played Reserves for Melbourne that year and 1993. In 1992 he also played seconds for Richmond.

Played for Old Brighton in 1997.
