Recruited by West Perth from a club in the 'Temperance League' in 1941, half-forward William Ralph Latham played in their 1942 premiership side before crossing to Swan Districts.
In 1945 he travelled to Melbourne as a member of the RAAF and played 16 games with the Demons. He was first stationed at centre half-back, then moved forward in the same role he'd played in Western Australia. During his season in Victoria he also played games with an RAAF team, then returned to Swan Districts at the conclusion of hostilities. He appeared with them until at least 1952, though he missed the entire 1951 season.
