Reserves player in 1980 and 1981, recruited after playing in a premiership for Horsham. After leaving Melbourne he became coach of Imperials-Wonwondah in the Wimmera League, then joined South Australian side North Adelaide in 1984. He played 15 games for them over two years before player/coaching Horsham United to the 1988 Wimmera premiership.

Bunn was a member of the Port Adelaide recruiting staff from their entrance into the league in 1997 until joining Adelaide in a recruiting role in 2013.

Bunn also served as coach of the Murray Bushrangers, winning a TAC Cup premiership in 2008, before leaving the club at the start of 2010 to take up another role with Port Adelaide. He had also coached the side's Under 16s and was an assistant with the Under 18 side before taking on the top job in 2008. Remained at Adelaide until January 2018. He became coaching director of amateur side Fitzroy in 2021.
