Played in the opening round of 1905 then returned to his original club before joining VFA side West Melbourne during the year. He played in their 1906 premiership side before transferring to Essendon in 1908 where he spent two seasons.
His 1908 return to the VFL was held up when the league could find no record of him being cleared from Melbourne to West Melbourne. It was discovered that he had only been cleared to Collingwood Juniors. Nevertheless he was allowed to join Essendon.
In June 1910 Minto was cleared to Northcote and played there until 1912.
