The cousin of Hassa Mann won a premiership as first choice ruckman in his first full season. He had played in the Reserves during 1959 and appeared 14 more times with the seconds the next year but also made his senior debut and was one of the best in both the 1960 Semi Final and Grand Final.

In July 1961 he was involved in a car crash which caused him to miss the rest of the year. He received a badly broken arm in the crash. Defender Mike Collins was also in the car at the time and suffered shock.

He was named an emergency for both the 1964 Semi Final and Grand Final before leaving after that season to coach Warrnambool from 1965 to 1967.
