After graduating through the Under 19s, Queay was handed his debut after being named in the best in several Reserves matches during 1972 but only lasted two weeks before returning to the 2's and ultimately being dropped from the senior list at the end of the year. Played at Dandenong in 1973.
After his stint in the VFA, the ruck-rover played for Doveton in 1974, then Burnie and Port Augusta, before going to Queensland in 1978 and Manuka in 1979. He joined Sydney side Western Suburbs in 1980, becoming their coach in 1981.
