The strong ruckman/defender was recruited from Echuca, where he had been training after playing at Kyabram the year before. Melbourne initially signed him before the 1949 season, but it took two years to convince him to play in the city.

Once he arrived Christie was a regular. He featured in the losing 1954 Grand Final side, but played just one more year before leaving the club.

An ankle injury last in 1955 kept him out of the finals, and despite North Melbourne being granted permission to interview him before the 1956 season he instead chose to play for McKinnon.

Notes
Most sources say he was from Echuca, but he had only been training there for two weeks after playing for Kyabram the previous season.
