Rover Clarke kicked three goals on debut, but saw most of his debut season ruined by injuries - first strained knee then ankle ligaments which ended his year.

He returned in 1969 but was unable to cement a permanent spot as rover. Won the VFL Reserves goalkicking with 50 majors in 1970, but only played two matches for the season and left at the end of the year. Joined VFA side Sandringham in 1971 and played 47 games, before crossing to Prahran in 1976 after a falling out with coach Kevin Murray.

He was still at Prahran in 1982 where he won a premiership and played a total of 83 games.
