A ruckman, brother of Frank Rugolo, who joined Sandringham after his VFL career ended. Equal third in the Liston Trophy in 1990 and 1992, he was Sandy's Best and Fairest in 1991 and won the Liston Medal outright in 1992. The same year he was voted best on ground in the Zebras Grand Final win.

In his last year he played in the Sandringham reserves premiership. Played a total of 102 games for the Zebras through to 1994 and was named in the back pocket of their team of the century. Then played for Chelsea from 1995 to 2004.
