John "Jack" Baquie was used as a forward and rover during two seasons with Melbourne before being cleared to Carlton in May of 1909. He played in the Blues' 1909 and 1910 Grand Final sides, but was suspended for the entire 1911 season after fighting in the 1910 decider.

In 1912 he spent the season at Seymour but was recalled for the Blues finals campaign.

Returning to Melbourne in June 1914 played two more seasons before World War I forced the club out of the competition. He then returned for another stint in 1919 and 1920 when they returned to the competition, before retiring.

In 1924 his younger brother was with St Kilda but didn't play a senior game.
