One of the oldest players ever to make his league debut for Melbourne, Hart had been at VFA side Northcote since 1931, and was their joint-coach in 1937.
Hart spent all but one game of his only year in the VFL playing as a centre in the Reserves, winning that grade's best and fairest award by one vote. He then returned to Northcote after signing with Fitzroy but failing to play another senior game.

Notes
Probably not the same E Hart who was cleared from Melbourne second 18 to Port Melbourne second 18 in 1931 when he would have been 19.
